ISO Certification
As of January 2006, Newton Medical Center was officially the first hospital in Kansas to receive the prestigious ISO 9001:2000 quality management system certification.
Cheryl McCart, Newton Medical Center’s ISO management representative, received the certification document from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), the world's largest developer of standards and international reference for organizational excellence.
According to McCart, ISO is not simply a quality improvement program. It is an organization-wide philosophy to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
ISO 9001:2000 certification is often compared to "The Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval" and is used to demonstrate that an organization maintains effective management system quality, best practices and effective processes necessary to carry out patient care.
"Through the years, Newton Medical Center has received many quality awards and accreditations because of our demonstrated commitment to delivering progressively higher levels of care," said Newton Medical Center president and CEO Steve Kelly. "ISO certification confirms our never-ending passion to provide the finest medical care possible to all who come through our doors."
Newton Medical Center also regularly earns full, three-year accreditation from HFAP.
