Cardiac Rehabilitation

The outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation program involves prescribed exercise and education sessions. It is designed to limit the physiological and psychological effects of cardiac illness and control certain cardiac symptoms.
The six- to 12-week program is on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at the Newton Professional Centre, Suite 140, 700 Medical Center Drive, Newton. Physician referral is required to participate in the program.
Education sessions include risk factor modification, anatomy and physiology, nutrition, stress management, pharmacology and recommendations for daily living activities.
An individualized exercise training program is developed for each participant. Exercises may include the treadmill, stationary bicycle, upper body bicycle and hand weights.
Participants' heart rhythm, blood pressure, pulse and oxygen are monitored at all exercise sessions which are overseen by a registered nurse.
Cardiac rehabilitation is covered by Medicare, Blue Cross/Blue Shield and most private insurance carriers.
