“The Learning Center’s mobile teaching van offers us a cost-effective way to provide health education programs for students in Newton, Park City, and Valley Center” said Steve Kelly, Newton Medical Center president and CEO. “We believe this grant will augment the preventive health information already provided by physicians and other medical providers in these communities.”
The elementary schools who will be receiving the “On The Road” presentations include Northridge, South Breeze, Slate Creek, and Sunset in Newton, Abilene and West in Valley Center, Walton Elementary in Walton, and Chisholm Trail in Wichita. These schools will receive specific presentations designed for each individual grade level. All programs have been developed to meet the state and national standards in health and science education.
“The Kansas Learning Center for Health is happy to partner with Newton Medical Center in this manner” said Brenda Sooter, executive director of the Center. “Newton Medical Center is very proactive in putting children first in their concerns for health for their patrons. By partnering with us, Newton Medical Center is able to provide school age children with tools to be healthy and active through out their lives.”
The Learning Center has provided health education programs to schools since 1965 and began outreach presentations “On The Road” to schools across the state in 2000. Thousands of young people have benefited by the presentations which teach healthy choices for healthy lives.
